Crystal Lake: Picture Perfect
Crystal Lake gives us exactly what its name promises – crystal-clear water that is the perfect setting for a day of boating…or in our case… a photo shoot to show off our new Revo Boarding Ladder! We know…hanging out on the boat and taking pictures hardly sounds like work!
We start our day at the DNR Public Boat Launch; it is paved and has plenty of parking spaces – but be ready for the insane stairway from the parking lot to the ramp! …it’s an amazing view and a good workout!
Today we are boating with grandma and grandpa and they are looking forward to playing with the kids in the water and being able to easily get back on the boat thanks to our new ladder. Within 100 yards of the boat ramp we decide to throw an anchor and do some swimming. The area is stunning, and the water clarity is like a swimming pool.
Splashing around in 6-8 feet of water doesn’t entertain kids for long and they insist that we find a deeper spot so they can jump off the boat diving board. We decide to entertain the kids while cruising across the lake, so we pull them on tubes.
We anchor in about 20 feet of water, have a few snacks and jump off the diving board. The kids jump for about an hour and the adults take the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine and scenery.
We didn’t get to do any fishing on this trip but Crystal Lake is also a great spot for fishing. Our family loves to fish for perch and then head home for a nice fish fry! Cruising around the lake we’re pleased to see multiple LilliPad Marine Funnels and know that the homeowners are working hard to protect this amazing body of water while making fueling easy on themselves.
Our best time is always had on the water, but there are several local small towns that cant be beat. Every year we camp at Timberline Campground and take in the local charm. If you love camping and want to check out Crystal Lake we cant say enough great things about Timberline; grab the boat, tent, and your family and make a long weekend of some time in Northern Michigan!
I’ve heard people refer to Crystal Lake as Michigan’s most underrated inland lake, and I couldn’t agree more!
